Statement
Woman is the theme of my work. Exploring, unraveling and expressing woman’s sexuality and her body has been a taboo in Pakistani traditional context. To me woman is an unraveled mystery-an enigma, my work is how I observe women in different situations in our society but yet couldn’t reveal its mystery as there is still a veil. I looked at body parts and hair which bears all the characteristics that a woman has. I chose to paint over life size images to paint. My works are a strong personal comment on Pakistani patriarchal culture, but I also observe that women silently dominate men. Rest of my works are based upon female body and exploring its ambiguous realms. The element of photography dominates my paintings as I use it for my references; and the use of light is related to the light I use in my photo shoots.
